Mariama was also crossing the bridge, but her cause was a fundraiser for the children from Sierra Leone. The two met, and when Everett returned home to California, he called Deannie and Clayton Elliott, his sister and brother-in-law.
The Elliotts were childhood friends who reunited and married in their forties—too late to have biological children.
“The fact that they never had children was a travesty,” said Chad. “It was a waste. Either one of them would give anyone the shirt off their backs.
Mariama would find a home.
