Working Moms Raising Money to Save Children from Predators

By: Moms in Business Network (View Profile)

The National Create Your Dreams Awards Gala honoring working mothers whose outstanding accomplishments have positively impacted the global, national and local communities, announced this week that the gala will benefit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. (NCMEC)

The NCMEC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. NCMEC's congressionally mandated CyberTipline, has handled more than 419,400 leads. NCMEC has assisted law enforcement with more than 125,200 missing child cases, resulting in the recovery of more than 107,600 children.

“We are extremely excited and honored to have approval from the National Center to raise money on their behalf,” says Gina Robison-Billups, national president of Moms In Business Network, “So many times we see news programs on television about abducted children like Ben Ownsby, or children separated from their families as with Hurricane Katrina, and we feel helpless.  This event provides inspiration and a way for working mothers to make a difference.  "It is programs like NCMEC that literally save our children, and our two organizations intends to do everything we can to support NCMEC's mission.”

Just this week, an issue hit very close to home for Gina.  Within a mile from her home a 13 year-old girl from her daughters’ school was abducted and raped.  “Most of the parents I have spoken with say it could have easily been their daughter, and they are afraid.”  Gina herself thinks she may have seen the abductor about a month earlier doing work along the side of the road.  “I saw a man fitting the profile while I was walking my dog”.  It frightens her to think that just moments before she would go on to pass this man, she had separated from her children as they headed for school.  “It’s just sheer luck that we live on the opposite side of the block.”

The gala hosted by Moms In Business Network™ and The International Association of Working Mothers™ will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.  The event will include a cocktail reception, live entertainment, silent auction, dinner and awards show.  Ticket prices start at $150 per person.

The gala event presents six award categories: Working Mother of the Year, Luminary, Working Mother Advocate, Create Your Dreams, Woman of Courage, and Company of the Year.
