An Open Letter to All Democratic Candidates About the War in Iraq

To all Democratic candidates:

The war in Iraq has continued to kill innocent civilians since the inception of the war in 2002. According to the Washington Post, an estimated amount of 100,000 civilians have been killed since the U.S. invaded five years ago. I would like to ask what is your plan to end war and bring peace to the people of Iraq? How will you bring an estimated of 130,000 U.S. troops back home? What time frame do you plan on bringing all the troops home? When you start your term, will you pull out of Iraq immediately or after your first year? I am concerned about this issue because it has not only killed innocent Iraqi civilians but it has also appeared to have caused more harm to their country and ours than it has helped the Iraqi people. It seems that our country has mostly done harm there, and it is best for our troops to pull out. More than 3,500 U.S. soldiers lost their lives in this war which has only worsened over time. The war has not been getting better nor has it been helping anyone. It has also caused the U.S. economy billions of dollars in which could have been used for other internal U.S. causes such as education and healthcare. My suggestion is bringing all U.S. troops home during the first year of the new presidency, and give the Iraqi government an opportunity to govern and manage their own people. They should also be given a chance to provide security and stability to their country.

Thank you.

I wish ending the war in Iraq were as simple as pulling our troops out. The risk of instability and economic or political collapse becomes even greater. Although our loss of troops is horrible alone, it is still miniscule compared to the number of civilian deaths, which we can't know accurately. Keeping a police state in tact is not the solution either. And as much as we have a military interest and are informed via the media about what that presence entails, we don't know as much about private enterprise and interests that are major players in the ongoing war in Iraq. More than a plan for the U.S. pulling troops out of Iraq, I'd like to know what our candidates propose for ethical industry and global participation in rebuilding Iraq's economy and creating a war-free future.

That's a perfect solution, I agree. They don't realize what they are starting until their own children face it.

I have the perfect solution to end the United States' engagement in War. When Uncle Sam decides to wage war, all politicians' and government officials' first born children must fight overseas in frontline battle. When they are killed, then their second born replaces that fallen brother or sister...so on and so forth. If said politician has no children, then off to war he or she goes to fight the battle. Peace will soon become a fact.

Absolutely - let's spend our time and efforts on finding peace, not waging war.

I agree! Too much money has been wasted on another unnecessary war. I look forward to seeing what the Democrats have in store.
