I went to a Mommies-only luncheon today.
Actually, it’s called the Women's Chamber Alliance, a local women's group I’m involved with. Our speaker today was Tom Colvin, Executive Director of Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc.
I am teeming with thoughts on his presentation. Did you know that in six short years, one unspayed female dog and her offspring could have 67,000 puppies? In seven years, one unspayed cat and her young can produce 420,000 kittens?
The solution to killing animals because of pet over population is to spay and neuter your pets. Why don't people do that? Why do people continue to breed?
Oh, yes…the almighty dollar.
Puppy Mills Informational Video: If we adopted all the animals that are available for adoption TODAY each of us would have 40 dogs and 16 cats in our homes.
Be part of the solution and spay or neuter your pets and don't buy animals from pet stores.

The numbers you pulled together are shocking! These should be brought to everyones attention. It breaks my heart to think of all the pets without home due to our society's irresponsibility. Get your pets fixed people. To anyone realizing that they need to get their pet fixed check out your local I know that many local organizations will spay/neuter pets for a cheap rate. I was able to get my cat fixed for only $40. I also have wondered why pay for pets, there are many at the shelters filled with precious cats/dogs who need homes. If your thinking about getting a pet take a trip to your local SPCA or animal shelter first. I guarantee you'll find just the right little companion. Thanks for posting these numbers-they'll grab peoples attention.
