Basil Ayish, a U.S. citizen and resident of San Francisco, is now coordinating a letter-writing campaign to encourage everyone who plans to visit Israel and Palestine to ask their Senators and Congress people for help in finding out exactly what policy Israel will use to decide whether or not they can enter. He asks people who have been denied entry to Israel to contact their Senators and Congress people to ask their intervention in seeking a reversal of this decision. Since policy change is part of our mission, the Rebuilding Alliance will continue to organize Contact Congress Teleconferences on this issue, to be sure our representatives hear and help their constituents. It’s about having the right to live with your family, live in your home, and live in your homeland.
Dorothy Naor, writing from Israel, called the arbitrary denials of entry and re-entry of “an Israeli policy of expansionism and ethnic cleansing.” Although our Congress can’t directly engage peace negotiations, as friends of Israel, they can successfully intervene on behalf of their constituents to express their support for policies in accordance with our American values. Let’s continue to remind them how much an Israel-Palestinian peace agreement matters to us, and engage their support to clarify Israeli policy and help Americans continue to visit and to live with their families in Palestine.
