Today in America more than 1/4 of all kids live with only with their mothers.
After the divorce 5 years ago, I have remained single. Because I haven’t “hooked up with someone” (to solve all my problems, right?) – it gets pretty thin at Holidays, birthdays and Mother’s Day.
And, even for someone like me (with lots of friends, a strong prayer-life, and resources) a little bit of encouragement goes a long way.
Recently, I took my 1st grader to a meeting with her Taekwondo instructor. After a long conversation with her he said, “Your mom does without things so that you kids can have a good life. She deserves your Respect, correct?” Surprising to me... I started to cry. How did he know?
I figured there have got to be lots of other single moms out there who feel the same.
I want us to reach out to those Moms this Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 13th.
Please send a single mother you know a Mother’s Day card! It can even be a blank card with your own writing inside! It can say, “I see that you are doing an incredible job as a Mother. I want you to know that you are appreciated for your hard work and dedication. Happy Mother’s Day!” You could add a Starbucks card, a movie ticket, a manicure, or even a free Oil Change. We all know a single mom with little ones who is really struggling. What might lighten her load?
The point is that we say to her: You are Noticed! – You are Valuable! – Keep up the good work!
Will you join me this year??
