Having the courage to create light when one is forced into a tragic and dark place as a result of an act of violence on a loved one is definitely not an easy thing. Yet, some people find strength to transform a negative into a positive and inspire others in the process.
Spreading light and positive energy can happen in so many ways. It is up to us to create our own inspirational light and delve in its purity and authenticity. Whether the light is created by simply looking into a child’s eyes full of expectation, watching the sunset or observing the movements of the blades of grass as they lean on each other during a warm summer breeze, what is important is to let go of the negativity.
There are so many stories out there that teach us about how to heal from emotional chaos that life thrusts upon us every so often. One story that inspired me was that of the Dr. William Petit’s journey to healing after his wife and two daughters were killed. He survived and was left to deal with the senseless event that has served as an inspiration to others in the community. They created light by purchasing luminaries to light up the streets of Cheshire, Connecticut. The money collected will go to benefit those who suffer of multiple sclerosis as did Mrs. Petit. Her daughters had established a fund and raised money to help those who have the dreaded disease.
Of course there are other countless examples of how individuals are able to come out of catastrophic situations. They decode to work to help others instead of dwelling in hopeless self pity.
Dr. Petit says it best, “I guess if there’s anything to be gained from the senseless deaths of my beautiful family, it’s for us to all go forward with the inclination to live with faith and help a neighbor, fight for a cause, love your family. I’m really expecting all of you to go out and do some of these things with your family in your own little way to spread the work of these three wonderful women.”
