Since Valentine’s Day has not yet been banned (and is unlikely to be), here are a few possible ways of dealing with it.
- Personally boycott the holiday. Advise your husband, boyfriend, or lover that nothing whatsoever is required, and mean it.
- Keep it simple. One woman told her boyfriend what she wanted that day—“A Kiss.”
- If you are “uncoupled,” consciously love yourself that day. Reject the message that coupled is the only valid way to be.
- Set up the people in your life to succeed in this virtually no-win situation. Do this by providing the information they need. Tell them what you need that day and what will make you happy that day. (See last year’s Avert the Valentine’s Day Disaster, Keeping the Peace #1 for more information)
- Remember that this, too, shall pass. At least until next year!
