There are some things that just make me feel great inside. Most of them are memories of times past. Even though I have had many special moments recently, there is something magic about memories that make you feel good inside. Memories that wake you up to the person you were, and probably still are deep down. Everyday stress can take a toll on how you feel, how you react to everyday things that come your way and stress can make you really SICK ! I am determined to try and stay positive, and keep myself in a good place, as I tend to suffer from PTSD and depression.
PBS has nights when they play the doo wop songs of long ago. Every time I hear them I can remember the good old days. Certain songs can even take me back to a particular party and person I was dancing with. (Why did I let him get away? LOL.) I usually turn up the television and start dancing. This last time I had to stop before the end of the show because my back was hurting me. It usually starts hurting the next day and I pop a pill. I do have a permanent back injury, and I am not supposed to be dancing, but the therapy is worth it! It’s a feel good feeling! I have a few oldies of my own now, so I can go back in time anytime.
Another strange thing that makes me remember the good old times is coppertone suntan lotion! I used to put it on and go out in the sun on a comfortable lounge chair and read. I remember days by the beach feeling so comfortable, content and in my own world. I did this often as I lived in Jamaica and the family was fortunate enough to be able to rent a beach house every summer. I would stock up with my romantic paperbacks and my Coppertone. This was a special time for me also because the whole family was together.
Listening to hymns we used to sing at school usually makes me “feel good” and I am always able to sing along. After repeatedly singing the same hymns they just automatically stick in your head forever, it seems. I keep telling myself that I am going to buy some sheet music and play those hymns at home. I can still play enough to catch the essence of the music. That will give me enough background to sing. Yes, I have started singing, because I find when I sing I actually feel happier, and I have to concentrate a bit therefore I keep my mind in a happy state—negatives are not allowed.
