Following A Dream

Every time I wrote an essay, I would save it on my computer for later. To perfect my writing, I asked several friends, relatives and teachers to read my work. They gave me helpful advice on what to include and edit out of my essays. After a while, I was so accustomed to writing that it became second-nature to me. I continued searching for money and writing essays for about two years.

After many nights of staying up late to finish applications, I won more than $100,000 worth of scholarships. With this money, I am able to attend college for free. I feel that a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders. I don't have to worry about bugging my parents for money they don't have and stressing over whether I can advance my career and life through a college degree. Now, I can afford it.

Through searching for scholarships, I learned the importance of setting goals and accomplishing them. Reading several rejection letters made me a stronger person. I'm very thrilled that I had the opportunity to learn more about my drive to succeed—no matter what obstacles stood in my way.

My Advice

  • Apply for every scholarship possible. The more applications you submit, the more chances you have to win.
  • Get help. No one can do everything alone. Ask your teachers and family for advice.
  • Dedicate yourself. Make it a habit to work on your search for scholarships.
  • Never give up. Believe in yourself. If you believe, you will achieve.

Wow! This was a great story. I'm glad your hard work paid off. I was worried that you were going to say it didn't! Good luck now with the actual college applications!
It feels good to write.
