Good Options from Major Paint Manufacturers
Most major paint manufacturers now market their own lines of low VOC paints. Sherwin-Williams offers the Duration Home Interior Latex paint and the Harmony Interior Latex paint, both highly durable, low-VOC, low-odor paints that meet the criteria for paint in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings. Benjamin Moore produces Pristine Eco Spec Interior Latex Primer Sealer 23, another low-odor, low-VOC paint, and Kelly Moore offers Enviro-Cote, a low-VOC low-odor paint.
Cleaning Up Paint
Solvent-based paint is considered a hazardous waste, therefore all paints must be disposed of properly. Most organic, low-VOC, and no-VOC paints can be left outside with the top off until they dry out, then thrown away. A better option may be donating the paint to an organization such as Habitat for Humanity.
