From Donor to Investor: the New Progressive Coalition provides a new way to engage in political and social change.
The New Progressive Coalition LLC (NPC) is building the next generation of progressive investors. Similar to a financial services firm, NPC provides its members with the products and services they need to target their charitable and political money and time more effectively.
Here Kirstin Falk, NPC’s CEO, answers some frequently asked questions about NPC.
What motivated you to start NPC?
I had spent quite a few years working in politics and I saw many problems with the system. One big problem is that there is a whole generation of individuals who want to contribute to political and social change in many positive ways—by giving money, skills, expertise, or time—and they aren’t being engaged in any sort of effective or innovative way.
What is NPC’s mission and how do you go about accomplishing it?
Our goal is to grow and engage the next generation of progressive investors. By building this next generation, we will not only change politics today, but twenty years from now. We’ll have a whole new generation of individuals who are investing in the innovative and entrepreneurial organizations that are solving our problems.
We provide different tools and services to make it easier for these progressive investors to navigate politics more effectively. Some individuals would simply like to find entrepreneurial organizations that they can give money to, and we provide a platform that enables them to make and manage their contributions. Others find it confusing to try and keep track of what different organizations are doing, and which ones are effective. We help our members find and connect with them.
What kinds of individuals and organizations are a good fit for NPC membership?
We are looking for people who want to contribute—either time, expertise, or money—to progressive organizations, and who are looking for a more entrepreneurial way to be engaged in politics. They’re looking to invest in political change in a way that’s meaningful and in line with their interests.
