Stick With It

By The Daily Obsession | 6/7/2012

You guys, as much as I love makeup, during the hot, sweaty months of summer (which in L.A. can start in, oh, February!) I can’t stand feeling a lot of products on my face. There is nothing grosser than standing in a hot bathroom trying to put on eyeshadow while sweat drips down your neck. (And don’t even get me started on how disgusting it is to blow my long hair dry!  Every year, it makes me want to get a buzz cut and never have to deal with it again.)  Luckily, later this summer I’m finally—finally—moving into a place with central air, but until that happens, I still have to muddle through. That’s why I’m obsessed with MAKE UP FOR EVER’s new Aqua Shadow Sticks

I’ve been using their Aqua Cream shadows since they came out (I actually have ALL of them—sshh, don’t tell my accountant!) and I adore them, so I was super-excited when I heard they were coming out with a stick formula. As much as I love the cream shadows, I think I like the sticks even more because they’re easier to store and much, much easier to take with you and use on the go. Both formulas do usually involve using your fingers, but I find that I use them less with the sticks, so there’s less mess involved. (Although I wouldn’t call either of them messy, per se.) The thing that’s great about the sticks is that it’s very easy to use them as eyeliner, but it’s equally as easy to use them as shadow, so you can really create an entire look with them very quickly, which means less time in a hot bathroom.

Like the creams, once the stick shadows are on and have set (usually about thirty seconds or so) they are not going anywhere. Seriously, anywhere. They stay put all day on me, so they’re perfect in the hot weather because they won’t melt off at all. I also like that they’re available in a total of twelve shades. I mean, I love the Aqua Creams and I’m glad I finally got my hands on the entire set, but the obsessive-compulsive product buyer in me knows that if these came in more shades, I’d want all of those too and it’s really not necessary for my budget. The twelve colors are a nice cross-section of shades and finishes (both pearly and matte) so there’s still a big selection without it being overwhelming. Take that, lack of central air! You won’t break me!
