Braided Love

By Hairdresser on Fire | 2/21/2012

My favorite trend of the moment is definitely braids. I’ve been doing them on myself, friends and clients for years, but it seems that recently I’ve been seeing them everywhere I go. Dianna Agron was seen rocking a beautiful braided updo at the SAG awards this January, and several designers had their models walking down the runway in braids at New York Fashion Week. It’s a style that can be done a million different ways…the braid possibilities are endless!

Braids look good polished, messy, hippie, girly, peasant, chic, intricately done, or even just classic and simple, and here’s the kicker—they’re easy! I really believe that anyone can make a braid beautiful; all you need is a little bit of creativity. My favorite kind is a soft, romantic-looking braid, which I like to achieve on myself by not using a mirror (which allows for a few wanted mistakes).  Sometimes it’s nice to just let my fingers go to town!

Start by getting comfortable with your basic French braid. Once you are nailing the Frenchie, you can move on to halo braids, fishtail braids and anything your hair/mind/hands come up with. If you don’t know how to French braid, you can even just braid two pigtail braids close together and pin them up for a low chic up-do. Gorgeous! If you’re looking for more braid love, I have loads of tips and tutorials over at Hairdresser On Fire! Take a look!
