The Craziest Nail Trends Backstage at NYFW!

By Lacquered Lover | 2/27/2013

New York Fashion Week is known for the clothing, the jewelry, and the shoes. But it was the nail polish that really stood out at some of this year's biggest fall fashion shows. From interesting new nail shapes to some slightly terrifying nail art, the NYFW A/W2013 shows did not disappoint for polish lovers.

Backstage at Kate Spade it was all about drama. Deborah Lippmann created a very long, almond shape, which she thinks will be the hot new shape for nails this autumn, with stark blacks and shocking pinks. Then at the base of each nail, a square pyramid stud was placed to evoke the feel of 1980's New York City.

Creatures of the Wind sported a shorter, rounded nail that had a youthful edge with color blocking and squiggle grafitti inspiration! These nails are loud and fun but still very wearable thanks to the solid colors down one side and the fun, arty look on the other.

Alice and Olivia was all about the glamour. The black and white plaid was a monochrome contrast to the colorful plaid in the collection and certainly made you take notice of the models' hands during the show.

By far, the winner of the craziest nails for NYFW A/W2013 was the amazing fake nails CND for The Blonds. The entire show was based off of Hitchcock and Kubrick movies so the nails were covered in Psycho, the Bates Motel, the Shining, fake blood, and a lot of Swarovski crystals. The detailing was amazing (although not exactly user friendly). However, if by chance you're already scouting your next Halloween nail look, keep these in mind.
