Eight Bad Shampoos You Shouldn’t Buy

A good shampoo can make your hair look Pantene-commercial worthy. A bad shampoo on the other hand … could make you a candidate for a bride of Frankenstein look-alike contest. Not good.

1. Bumble and bumble Seaweed Shampoo, $16
Rating: 4.4
“I LOVE this conditioner but am not as crazy about the shampoo. It does have a funny smell and my hair doesn’t feel clean after use.”—ChristiG of TotalBeauty.com

2. PHYTO PhytoSpecific Optimal Hydration Shampoo, $24
Rating: 4.3
“For the cost you can buy another better shampoo; it’s just not worth it.”—Rogue78 of TotalBeauty.com

3. Burt’s Bees Rosemary Mint Shampoo Bar, $5.99
Rating: 4.2
“If this ‘shampoo’ was made into a liquid form, I might try it again but it was pretty difficult to get enough lather to completely get my hair clean, and I ended up in the shower for way longer than I wanted to be.”—Elizabasti of TotalBeauty.com

4. Suave Professionals Radiant Brunette Shampoo, $2.23
Rating: 3.9
“Honestly, I didn’t see any difference in my brunette hair. This shampoo left my hair rather tangled and the smell was not that great. It cleanses well but does not do what it claims to do which is make your hair radiant.”—Mewchica of TotalBeauty.com

5. Rusk Being Fresh Shampoo, $11.99
Rating: 3.8
“There isn’t anything redeeming about this product. It doesn’t make my hair soft or keep my hair feeling fresh after a shower. It just is so-so. I won’t buy it again.”—Rochellep of TotalBeauty.com

6. Alterna Luxury White Truffle Shampoo, $30
Rating: 3.5
“The hype behind it’s ‘luxurious’ ingredients leads to nothing as the results are ordinary and marginal at best. This product does not help with dryness or damage, and certainly is not worth the price point.”—Ohhh_aly of TotalBeauty.com

7. Biosilk Hydrating Shampoo, $10.49
Rating: 3.2
“I psyched myself into thinking it was me and not the product so I kept using it even though it barely lathered and left my poor hair stripped of all moisture and impossible to style.—Teshie of TotalBeauty.com

8. MOP Lemongrass Shampoo, $14
Rating: 1.3
“I had heard good things in general about MOP products but this really didn’t improve the condition of my hair as in making it softer, etc. After a couple weeks of using [it] … my scalp seemed itchy. Will not be repurchasing.”—FashionStarr of TotalBeauty.com
