It’s hard to pick out just one beauty look from the 85th Annual Academy Awards to lavish attention on, but Stacy Keibler’s faux bob was perky, retro, and all-around unexpected. In a sea of updos and loose waves, it stood out for all the right reasons. “We wanted to create a modern retro look, very old Hollywood in the ‘30s glamour,” said stylist Robert Vetica, who created the look. “We chose to do a low side part, deconstructed into a faux bob with loose volume.” Vetica let us in on how he did it, using products by Carol’s Daughter.
To get the look, apply Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Sacred Straightening Serum ($30, Ulta) to wet hair to protect it from blow-drying and create flexible hold. Then, blow-dry hair as usual.
Once hair is dry, apply Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Protection Serum ($18, Beauty.com) and then use a large-barrel curling iron to curl hair, piece by piece, into long, loose waves. When all the hair is curled, set it with a spritz of Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Styling Hair Spray ($17, Sephora).
Next, brush out the curls and pin them up and under until all hair is gathered into a loose faux bob. Use your fingers to pick out a few face-framing tendrils near the face and spray with Carol’s Daughter Finishing Shine Mist ($18, Sephora) to add an extra dose of sparkle.
