Seven Beauty Resolutions to Make for 2012
- 1 of 8 |
#1: Wash Your Makeup Brushes More Often
The sludge-colored water that results from a good brush bath should be enough to convince you…you were spreading that dirt on your face! Invest in a good brush soap (like lemony-fresh Becca Professional Make-up Brush Soap ($15 at Beccacosmetics.com) and resolve to clean your implements at least once per month. While you’re at it, go ahead and wipe down any metal implements—and your cell phone—with rubbing alcohol.
#2: Take Care of Your Color
If your blonde turns brittle or your brunette turns brassy, consider the possibility that you’re not following the proper protocol for colored hair. Switch to a color-protective or color-depositing shampoo system, use styling products that protect against UV exposure, and try to avoid heat styling when you can. The result will be color that lasts much, much longer. (Bumble and bumble Cool Brunette Shampoo and Conditioner, $23 each at Bumbleandbumble.com)
#3: Turn Down the Heat in Your Shower
Here’s a resolution that actually saves you money: Start taking tepid or lukewarm showers instead of hot, steamy ones. Hot water strips your hair and skin of natural oils, leaving it parched and dry. Cooler water is gentler all around.
#4: Get on a Sunscreen Regimen
If you only wear SPF at the beach, you’re not doing enough. Find a broad-spectrum sunscreen you like and wear it Every. Single. Day. In twenty-five years, you’ll be thanking yourself. Try La Roche-Posay Anthelios SX Daily Moisturizer.
#5: Break Out of a Rut
If you’ve been wearing the same hairstyle or the same lipstick for years, vow that 2012 is the year you try something new. Change your color, get a great cut, wear teal eye shadow…a small change in your routine can put a serious spring in your step—and boost your self-confidence.
#6: Don't Pick
We repeat: Don’t. Pick. Anything—zits, flakes, nails, split ends, eyebrows, anything. Resolve to have the willpower to leave your beautiful self alone.
#7: Try Something New
Maybe you’ve always wanted to master liquid liner, or maybe you’ve always dreamed about learning to do intricate nail art. This year, learn at least one new makeup application or hair styling technique you didn’t know before.
