Straight, Sleek Hair the Fashion Week Way

  • California Cool at Skaist-Taylor

Designers Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor are known for their breezy, California aesthetic (they did found Juicy Couture, after all), and the hair at their namesake collection’s presentation was no different. Lead stylist Kien Hoang created the swingy, natural look (inspired by Rolling Stones progeny Theodora Richards) using Oribe Hair Care products. “It’s very youthful,” he said. “Effortless, but done. He sprayed the hair with Oribe Foundation Mist and blow-dried using gel serum, which gives equal amounts of shine, hold, and body. Once the hair was dry, Hoang ironed the hair with Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray, which makes the hair feel more lived-in and tousled. (

  • Über-Flat at Prabal Gurung

The “uncursed” theme of the collection was heightened with hair that was super-shiny, moody, almost goth-like. Stylist Paul Hanlon prepped hair with Catwalk by TIGI Curlesque Strong Mousse from the root to the middle of the hair and let it air-dry, then spritzed hair with a bit of Your Highness Shine Spray. At the show, stylists applied extensions in the front, but anyone can get the same strong, severe lines by simply creating a center part and blow-drying using Catwalk by TIGI Session Series Finishing Spray. • Razor-Sharp Lines at Victoria Beckham

The sharp, geometric style, created by Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau, was cut to create a blunt, symmetrical finish.”This is a simple style that in fact becomes very glamorous when worn with Victoria’s sexy clothes,” he said. Guido started by trimming hair directly across the bottom and blow-drying with Redken Satinwear 02 Ultimate Blow-Dry Lotion. He then created a deep side part and used a flat-iron to get hair as straight as possible before misting with Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist. To finish, he tucked hair behind the ears and applied a smudge of Hardwear 16 Super-Strong Sculpting Gel for a wet look in front. ( Photo credit: Charles Sykes for Redken

  • Smooth Waves at Reed Krakoff

Guido also created the hair look at Reed Krakoff, which featured gentle waves and a matte texture. “The style is all about texture,” he said. “A truly natural, matte finish.” He used a comb to part wet hair, let it dry naturally, then applied Redken Powder Refresh 01 Aerosol Hair Powder all throughout hair to absorb oil. Powder Grip 03 Mattifying Hair Powder added a final boost of body and dulled shine. ( Photo credit: Charles Sykes for Redken

  • Simple and Straight at Alexander Wang

Redken’s Guido Palau called this look tomboyish and downtown. “It’s a very simple look,” he said, “It’s a very wearable hair style as well.” He applied Redken Satinwear 02 Ultimate Blow-Dry Lotion before blow-drying almost all the way. Then used Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk at the ends and let hair air-dry until finished.
