Genius or Insane? Unusual New Beauty Trends

Bored of the same old beauty routine? Decide whether these new trends are ridiculous, crazy, or exactly what you have been looking for (or all three).

Try some Feces In Your Facial
You think we’re kidding. But with new facial treatments utilizing everything from human placenta to diamonds, it seems nothing will surprise us anymore. For instance, at the Shizuka Day Spa in New York City, the Geisha Facial is designed to create a porcelain glow similar to the iconic image of Japanese Geishas. The magical ingredient: bird droppings. Nightingale droppings are sterilized and ground into a powder, and then rice bran and water are added to the mixture to neutralize the otherwise lousy smell. The droppings have natural enzymes that break down dead skin cells, which cleanse the face in an unusual yet efficient fashion.

When It Comes to Eyelashes, Size Does Matter
But you knew that already. What you didn’t know is that now you can make your desired eyelash length permanent, not just a product of your fave mascara! Rather than waking up the morning after with raccoon eyes and dashing out the door, you can have “naturally” long eyelashes and eliminate the need to make them appear longer with mascara. Multiple makeup and skin care lines have released lash enhancers this season, each with its own unique method to visually improve eyelash length and volume. The serums, creams, and conditioners are generally applied along the ridge of the eyelid like liquid eyeliner, rather than on the actual eyelashes like mascara. This way, the treatment is applied directly to the base of eyelash growth. While these lash enhancers are generally pretty pricey, think about how much a lifetime supply of mascara adds up to!

Don’t Be Afraid to Say No! to Hair Removal
Hair removal has always involved either a razor, a mess, wax, or pain until this exciting new gizmo called no!no!. Here’s how it works: thermicon technology uses thermal transference to conduct a gentle pulse of heat to the hair using a thermodynamic wire. Whatever that means. Essentially, after several uses (yes, several, hair doesn’t magically stop growing after one use) the hair on your legs grows less and less, until eventually the need to shave is eliminated. Don’t worry: the wire is patented and has built-in safety mechanisms that have allowed this product to become a safe and at-home tool. However, it is important to note that this product is not recommended for use on the face, so we will have to come up with some other way to permanently shape our eyebrows.

Underwear Takes on a Whole New Meaning … And Your Butt Takes on a Whole New Shape
If your booty does not make heads turn when you walk across the quad, there is a new trend that will make crowds follow you to class. There is a sudden demand for underwear that can enhance the size of your backside, and several brands have stepped up to the plate. Ranging from only a few millimeters to a couple inches of foam or silicone padding, the underwear is designed to make your bottom look fuller. Feel Foxy, a line featured on the Tyra Banks show, has everything from padded panties to butt lifters. Bubbles Bodywear claims on their website that their padded underwear will “Take Your Gluteus to the Maximus.” Just hope you do not disappoint your fans too much once the clothes come off …

If You Love Organic Makeup, This Is as Good as It Gets
With the “green” craze extending into the beauty market, it’s no surprise that organic and pure makeup has had an increasingly popular career. An easy way to find guaranteed additive-free products for your face is to look for the Halal certification, which means the products are Muslim-user friendly. For example, Natural skin care specialist Dr. Mah Hussain-Gambles recently developed Saaf Cosmetics, a London-based skin care and makeup line. Not only are the ingredients completely organic, the line is also vegetarian, not tested on animals, alcohol free, GMO free, and even certified vegan except for a few products that use—gasp—beeswax. Even the packaging is recyclable. This entirely natural line is not only popular among Muslim women, but many celebrity makeup artists are also turning to the Halal mark to ensure minimal signs of aging and wrinkles. Now that can’t hurt to try!
