Isn’t Ellie Kemper just adorable? As the also-adorable Erin Hannon on The Office, she’s usually wearing youthful styles with barely there makeup, but last week at the Producer’s Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, she rocked a more grown-up look, with a sleek bangs and more colorful cosmetics. Here’s how to get this look, which is sure to brighten up the worst winter doldrums.

1. Go Gray (the Good Kind!)
Gray eye shadow looks good on almost anyone, anytime. For a look like Ellie’s, grab the Too Faced Naked Eye Soft & Sexy Eye Shadow Collection ($36, Sephora), which contains a mix of neutral shadows in both matte and shimmer finishes. Use a large shadow brush to apply grayish-taupe Pillow Talk from the lash line to the brow bone, and then use a smaller brush to follow with gunmetal-gray Unmentionables along the lash line. Use a liner brush to softly line the lower lashes with shimmery taupe Lap Dance, and then wet the liner brush and use it to apply the black Stiletto shadow on top and below. Finish with two coats of black mascara.

2. Pair it with Pink
Although gray eye makeup can match almost any lipstick, it pairs particularly well with pinks—from soft baby pinks to standout fuschias. Ellie is wearing a poppy-pink shade (try CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Temptress, $7.99 at Walgreens) that complements her red hair. To keep from looking washed-out, dab the Raspberry blush from the new Smashbox Be Discovered Cream Cheek Trio in Show Biz ($29, Smashbox.com) onto the apples of the cheeks for a natural flush.

3. Style Sleek and Shiny Hair
Blow-dry hair using Redken Velvet Gelatine 07 Cushioning Blow-Dry Gel ($17 at salons). The gel melts into wet hair, protecting it from heat damage and imparting bodacious bounciness and shine.

When you’re going for the sleek look, don’t use a round barrel brush to blow dry—it’ll create too much volume. Instead, choose a flat paddle brush, which helps hair lie stick-straight. (try DENMAN’s Paddle Brush, $11.95 at Folica.com
