Pretty, Please! Ultimate Concealers

I don’t use concealer very often, but I’ve been strangely obsessed with it this week.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been sporting a giant shiner, courtesy of my ridiculous decision to learn how to snowboard. (Whoever decided that hurtling down a mountain was “fun” deserves to spend the rest of his life in a Mexican prison. And yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s a guy.) Anyway, I’ve spent the last several days hiding, camouflaging, and trying not to look battered. It invites all sorts of uncomfortable questions, you know?

All concealers are not alike. Some are great for discoloration, some are great for zits, some are fantastic for other things. A concealer wardrobe of these four essentials will always find you prepared.

Revlon ColorStay Blemish ConcealerThis great versatile cover-up deals with dark spots and small-ish zits with ease. Perfect for emergencies. ($8.49 at Target)

Benefit Erase PasteUse this thick cream on large zits, scars, and anywhere else that needs extra color TLC. ($26 at Sephora)

YSL Touche EclatNot a concealer, exactly, this luxe pen acts as a highlighter and all-around complexion perfector. Dab it on areas where you’d like to blur the truth a little. ($40 at YSLbeautyus.com)

Dermablend Cover Crème SPF 30This is the tough stuff. If you have scars, birthmarks, or tattoos that occasionally need covering, this crème creates the illusion of perfectly flawless skin without a caked-on look. ($36 at Dermablend.com)
