You may be wondering, where the hell is that? For those of you who have justly never heard of this city, it is located in the Central Valley, about two hours north of Los Angeles and has a surprisingly substantial population of over 900,000. Now, we all know that California girls have a lot to live up to when it comes to beauty, what with our year-round flawless tans, blemish-free complexions, and perfectly painted faces. And now all of that pressure resides in the hands of Fresno, which isn’t exactly known as a beauty mecca. This locale even trumped obvious contenders such as San Francisco, Las Vegas, and New York, all of which secured lower spots on the list. While it is a bit perplexing, we are happy for Fresno. It’s better than the “Car Theft, Meth, and DUI Mecca of the U.S.” stigma, right?
Now that you’re up to speed, you’re next question may be “Fresno, really?” Here are a few reasons we think it snatched the top spot:
- The city’s population is mostly beauty students. Okay, we don’t know if that’s factually accurate, but we do know the town is home to five beauty schools offering career training and accredited courses in cosmetology, esthetics, manicuring, and hairstyling. Students checking into these schools multiple times a week could significantly impact the overall check-in total. Not to mention, when the cosmetologists of our future embark on their careers, they’re going to need supplies.
- Lucky for all the beauty-school attendants, beauty stores ULTA and Sally Beauty Supply are like the Starbucks and Walgreens of San Francisco. You essentially cannot turn a corner without spotting one.
- Fresno is boring. One can only explore malls, go to the park, visit the zoo, eat, get liquored up, and hit up the Save-Mart so many times before she loses her mind. Enter beauty products. Buying makeup is fun and is always conveniently accessible.
Do you think Fresno deserves the top spot? Which other U.S. cities do you think are the most beauty obsessed?
