I’m a bit of a gym rat. Like, a five-day-a-week workouter. I tell you this not to brag, but rather to illustrate that I spend a LOT of time sweating. And I do sweat. I’m not one of these gals that just glistens or emits a mist that smells vaguely of lilacs. I don’t stink like ass (unlike some people at my gym … I'm looking at you, grunting sweatpants guy), but when I work out, I end up red-faced, damp, and altogether disheveled. As it should be, I think.
My post-workout time is spent frantically trying to bring my face and hair back into normalcy, so to be able to walk out of the locker room looking like myself again, I rely on a few favorite products.
Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes—The best thing after an intense run. They remove any trace of makeup residue or grime, and the cucumber cools and calms. ($5.99, drugstores)
La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Anti-Redness Moisturizer—Since my skin is fair, it tends to flush easily. This moisturizer is actually formulated with rosacea in mind, but it also does a great job quieting down my own “angry face.” ($36.95, Dermstore.com)
Avon MagiX Face Perfector SPF 20—If I don’t do a full face of makeup post-workout, I spread on a little of this. The white paste evens skin tone and mattifies, and makes me look instantly 63 percent better. (I measured.) ($6.99, Shop.avon.com)
Fresh Sugar Passion Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15—This creamy and sweet-tasting balm is sheer enough that I can wear it without other makeup, but tinted just enough that I feel more “done.” ($22.50, Fresh.com)
Bliss Vanilla + Bergamot Soapy Suds—My gym is not particularly fancy, so I’m pretty sure that the free shower gel is actually made from industrial solvents and Pine-Sol. Maybe you belong to a luxury gym where bath attendants gently pat you dry with 1000-thread count towels. But if not, this is a good body wash to make you feel less disgusting. ($20, Blissworld.com)
