Did you spend your weekend in the mountains? In line for Harry Potter? Or balled up in the fetal position wailing about how Harry Potter is over? No matter why you remained blissfully ignorant of the pop-culture world at large this weekend, it’s Monday morning, and it’s never too late to get caught up. Here’s what you missed.
Third Time Was Not a Charm
It’s divorcio for yet another power couple: Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are no mas. Maybe he was tired of always having to sit in coach while Jennifer’s entourage of stylists, makeup artists, and baby wranglers got to hang out in first class. Who knows? While the inevitable People cover about her postdivorce reinvention will surely be fantastico, we can’t help but be a bit excited that maybe the world will be spared the Latin singing-competition show they planned to produce together. Reality Got Real for Khloe Kardashian
MediaTakeOut reports that Khloe Kardashian and her husband, reality-TV star Lamar Odom (who used to have a pretty sweet gig playing for the Lakers), were involved in a car accident in Queens. Although the only injured parties are reportedly a bystander and the cyclist who had the nerve to get in the way of Odom’s car, it will be interesting to see how the whole affair is played out for TV. In fact, that’s quite an interesting riddle—if something happens to a Kardashian but the E! cameras aren’t there to film it, did it ever really happen? (via MediaTakeOut)
Ivanka Trump Welcomed a Trumpette
Hard-working real estate executive (who totally did not get any career favors from her real estate mogul dad) Ivanka Trump gave birth to a baby girl Sunday morning in New York. (Girlfriend could not have picked a worse day—it was HOT!) Trump and her similarly self-made publishing-heir husband Jared Kushner are thrilled, ecstatic, over the moon, etc. about the birth and can’t wait to give their daughter a sensible, grounded childhood by dressing her up in Baby Dior and having her first haircut done by Frederic Fekkai. Harry Potter Is the Champion
The final installment in the Potter film series grabbed the all-time record for opening-weekend box office, besting 2008’s The Dark Knight. It also had the highest opening-day total ever. Judging from the number of people on my personal Facebook feed who posted updates and check-ins from the mile-long theater lines, I am not surprised by this. (via HuffPost)
Breaking Bad Is Back
If you don’t already watch the show, which is about a mild-mannered chemistry teacher who turns to cooking crystal meth to provide for his family, you may be wondering if you should care about this. Yes, yes you should. Season four premiered last night, and it’s still the most heart attack‑inducing program on television. If you want to sound smart at cocktail parties, this is required viewing.
