I love to look at pictures of dart frogs, they are so pretty and exotic. These cute colorful little frogs are native to South America which is a place that I can't wait to visit again! If you want to know he reason they are called poison dart frogs it is because they have been used to acquire poison for south American hunters who use blow darts to hunt for food in the jungle.Since dart frogs have bright colors on their skin they warn other animals not to eat them and that they are going to make them sick or worse! Many species of poison dart frogs are very dedicated parents hoisting their newly hatched baby tadpoles up into the canopy! The little baby tadpoles stick onto the mucus that is on the backs of their parents frogs. The poison dart frog family is mostly female which means that girls rule the forest! No wonder all those frogs are so colorful with a female dominate population they don't have a chance! Not only are they really pretty they even have been shown to have value in medicine. Who would have thought that a tiny little animal would be so interesting! It's too bad that they are loosing their habits due to farming and such. Very sad. In captivity, most species thrive which makes me happy. They like it where the humidity is kept at a constant at 80 to 100% and the temperature should be around 72 °F (22 °C) to 80 °F (27 °C) during the day and no lower than 60 °F (16 °C) to 65 °F (18 °C) at night. Some species tolerate lower temperatures better than others as well. Thank you for taking the time to read about this awesome little animal! Wonderful colorful frogs.
