Finally, a Big Brother Worth Watching

Okay, I have to admit: I’ve watched all seasons of Big Brother. All eleven, including the one in February which doesn’t really count because Big Brother is a summer show, not a mid-season replacement. It’s like slowing down to watch an accident scene. We all do it, even me, who used to work accident scenes as a flight RN. Big Brother is just another accident we all watch even though we know it’s wrong.

Last night’s episode was well advertised for days before it aired. “Chima’s Meltdown” teased viewers into watching the episode. Of course, I watched it, knowing days ahead that Chima would be expelled from the house. And for good reason. She broke many rules during her stay and last night was the grand finale of her behavior. She refused to wear her personal microphone and then threw it in the pool. It was fished out, but ruined. She also went on a several minute tirade, most of which was bleeped out. Jordan, who is a lovely woman from the south, called Chima a “diva.” And she was right on the mark.

Chima, an Atlanta resident, was perfectly made up, perfectly dressed and perfectly coiffed every episode. But that’s not what made her a diva. She truly believed she was above the other housemates, even saying in the diary room that, “I’m smarter than anyone else in the house”. She obviously unaware that Michele was a scientist with a Ph.D. And it was Michele who was the coveted “Head of Household” up to last night’s episode. She was cheated out of a few more days because of Chima’s expulsion.

Chima left the house from a back door, escorted by I believe, the executive producer. Chima was instructed several times to go to the diary room, but she refused until the excutive producer’s voice came over the loud speaker and told her to do it. And she finally did and was escorted out immediately.

Of course, the housemates were stunned. Some were happy, some were sad. But they had to agree that Chima was a problem that couldn’t be resolved. I see it two ways: It was good to have Chima in the house because it made watching BB more interesting. But taking her out probably gave the show it’s highest ratings.

So, Michele had to step down as HOH and Jordan won the competition for the new HOH. Now the problem child is Lydia, a tatooed and pierced chick with just as much of a foul-mouth as Chima, if not worst. She actually challenged Jeff to a fight but Jeff kept his cool and ignored her. I like Jeff, and to be honest, I hope he wins the game. He’s obviously remembering that this is a game, with a half million prize, and not just a summer vacation and a chance to be on TV. After last night’s episode, I’m also rooting for Jordan, because she lives with her mom and brother and has been sharing a bedroom with her mom for two years. She said if she won, she promised her mom that she’d buy a house for the family.

Now that’s a good reason to watch the show. And may a deserving person win the big pay-off!
