Smell Like a Celebrity: Perfumes by the Stars

The latest in the trend of celebrity scents has revealed itself—and it’s not “Bloodthirsty” by Robert Pattinson. The newest scent is self-titled and goes for $35 for a 1.7-oz. bottle. It’s touted as “straight, masculine, and unconventional.” About as unconventional as any product supposed to make people smell better: it’s Bruce Willis Eau de Parfum. And it continues to be wildly unconventional by not being sold in North or South America. Is that lack of convention, simple self-preservation, or something else? According to the NY Daily News, celebrity fragrances are generally more successful abroad than they are in North and South America. Because of the association with celebrity-endorsed brands, Americans are less likely to buy celebrity fragrances than their European and Asian counterparts are. While the recession has seen an overall decline in the sale of celebrity scents (check out our chart of celeb perfumes), internationally marketed celebs, such as Britney Spears, have been more successful abroad. Here’s hoping that Bruce Willis’s fragrance won’t “die hard.” (We couldn’t help it.) Find out just how much an ounce of these celebrity perfumes cost and which celeb products are worth your money. McGraw, by Tim McGraw

Even the bottle is wearing leather; the country singer’s scent goes for $16.47 per ounce.

Heat, by Beyoncé

We might not believe that investing in her perfume will make us bootylicious, but someone does: Beyoncé’s perfume is being sold for $22.64 per ounce. Think of the potential for taglines! “Turn up the heat,” “Bring on the heat”… we’ll be the most popular girl at the party.

Power, by 50 Cent

The opportunities for currency puns are overwhelming … we’ll be the bigger person and just mention that 50 Cent sells his fragrance for $20.14 per ounce.

Halle, by Halle Berry

The actress’s self-titled scent is on the more expensive side at $32 per ounce. Hopefully, the scent evokes Halle in Catwoman rather than Halle in Monster’s Ball.

McGraw, by Tim McGraw

Even the bottle is wearing leather; the country singer’s scent goes for $16.47 per ounce.

Glow, by Jennifer Lopez

J. Lo’s signature scent is priced at an accessible $11.17 per ounce. Now that she has twins, should she double the price?

Usher Men, by Usher

For the man on a budget to smell as though he isn’t, Usher sells his fragrance for $6.39 per ounce.

Kim Kardashian, by Kim Kardashian

It’s only one of Kim’s many endorsements (how many products can one woman love?), but it goes for $19.11 per ounce.

Intimately Beckham, by David Beckham

If $29.08 per ounce can make us a celebrity athlete married to a former Spice Girl, we’ll take it.

Paris Hilton, by Paris Hilton

It’s interesting that Paris’s perfume is something she isn’t: affordable. At $5.45 per ounce, it’s decidedly out of character.
