3 Ways to Wear a Kimono

One of my all time favorite pieces to wear—besides headbands—are kimonos. They are so light and airy and basically perfect for any occasion. Here's how to wear a kimono.

I have been known to dress a kimono up with a cute sundress or printed pants to distressed jeans and beachy hair. Really anything goes in my world when it comes to this eclectic piece. Here are three completely different ways that I wear kimonos.

This first look (left) is slightly dressy with these printed pants. I love the vibrant yellow mixed with the bold lip—perfect for Spring. I paired this outfit with a black kimono with a velvet animal print to contrast the pattern on the pants. Make sure you are balancing out the look and go with something tighter on the bottom to complement the flowy top half. It will flatter your body and prevent you from looking like you are swimming in your clothes.

The next look (middle) is super laid back. You can't go wrong with cut offs and a flouncy blouse. I loved how this kimono is so long. It perfectly covered my bum. Plus I love the look of it with these booties.

Lastly, this is what I like to call casual chic (right). I am wearing heels to dress it up but my distressed jeans and tank give it a laid back vibe. I finished this look with messy hair and a coral lip. I am loving the blue kimono with the bright lip.

Here are some other ways that I would wear a kimono:

  • Pair your kimono with a light and airy sundress. Don't forget your head accessories like a big floppy hat or a floral crown—perfect for music festival season!
  • Don't be afraid of color when it is comes to wearing this fun piece. Be bold and make a statement.
  • My number one rule when it comes to any outfit is accessorize. Pile on the bracelets and layer the necklaces for a laid back, chic look.
  • If you are looking for a more dressy look, try pairing it with some high-waisted leather shorts or pants with a sleek crop top, classic pumps, and a slicked back pony. I love to dress them up for a work appropriate outfit.
