As a stylist and blogger, it is my job to help clients, friends, and readers get out of their fashion comfort zone. Fashion is all about taking risks. I have to admit, the menswear trend intimidated me at first. This girl? The girl who fought over playing Baby and Posh Spice on a regular basis as a youngin’ ? No way I thought. Let’s just say I’m no Sporty Spice. Menswear would definitely be a challenge. But I love a good challenge—especially in fashion.
Like many of you, I struggled to put my own touch on this trend. But the beauty of menswear-inspired looks is just that—they’re inspired. It is possible to feel feminine while wearing this look. So how can you take this fall fashion trend by the horns and rock it like the boys? It’s actually pretty simple. We can do anything they can do, just better—right?
Menswear doesn’t have to be totally masculine. It’s the idea of straight, clean lines and business-y vibes. A foolproof menswear combo is the button-down top and tailored trouser. But that’s just so easy! I wanted to challenge myself a little more in this particular look. If you’re into the challenge, find menswear-inspired accessories and play with textures and prints. My absolute favorite menswear-inspired addition is a bow tie. I’m obsessed! Bow ties for women are so hot right now. The best part is they're so inexpensive and you can DIY one! Adding a bow tie can change up your whole blouse by making it more feminine. Needless to say, I decided to throw a bow on it.
Headed out for a night with friends? Menswear-inspired looks are your best friend. Think black silk sexy tops tucked in to fabulously tailored trousers. See, I bet you thought the last place to rock the trend was out on the town!
The options for wearing this fall fashion trend really are endless! I even bet you already have menswear-inspired pieces in your wardrobe, all you have to do is get creative! Last but not least, let’s hear it for the boys!
