One of my favorite looks for Spring 2014 is contrast collars. Style bloggers like Mariann of Cashmere In Style and Blair of Atlantic-Pacific have been showing how to interpret the look—girly, edgy, ultra-trendy—you name it. The one thing they have in common? Layering, of course!
If you're feeling more traditional, wear a white collar with a dark sweater like Blair does (left). But if you're feeling bold, then by all means, start with a pop of color—or better yet, a print as seen on Mariann (right).
I tried contrast collars for the first time last fall and fell in love. I like to wear a dark shirt with a cropped, off-white knit sweater over a black chiffon blouse. (A neutral color like black or white is easy to style.) Because the sweater is cropped, it allows the collar and most of the blouse to show. Wearing a chiffon or cotton button-up will ensure you avoid looking bulky. Cropped sweaters are here to stay so invest in a few basic colors that can be worn over a variety of tops. I like to finish off the style with a bold necklace that ties everything together. This style is affordable and accessible thanks to stores like H&M and Zara, proving you don't have to spend a million to look like a million!
