The minute I start to see Fair Isle sweaters I know winter is fast approaching, but most importantly, Christmas is around the corner! Initially I was hesitant to jump on the colorful geometric-print trend because it’s not a very versatile piece, you can only really wear it during the holidays. But, after seeing the sweater styled several ways and just how festive and fun they are, I knew I had to give the cheerful print a go. Plus, you can easily stock up on your favorites and wear them for years to come. I mean, holiday fun never goes out of style, right?
The great thing about a popular trend is its ability to evolve. Depending on the style, color, and print, Fair Isle sweaters can easily be worn in the fall as well. Blair from Atlantic Pacific and Jessica from Bows & Sequins layer their sweaters with neutrals for the perfect autumn look. You could also go more festive, like Liz from Sequins and Stripes with her reindeer Fair Isle sweater, and pair it with a beanie and snow boots. I also really love the idea of dressing up the menswear-inspired sweater like Jenna Lyons did with pumps and tailored trousers. It’s a nice alternative to the traditional dress or skirt for the office or a party.
Although you may only be able to wear Fair Isle for part of the year, clearly, there’s a handful of ways to style the sweater and get enough wear out of your investment. Here are some of my fave Fair Isle sweaters:
