Can anyone tell me about citris in the Compost pile ?

Someone just asked me this same question a couple of days ago. I toss in all the citrus peels. In fact every now and then we’ll have an orange or grapefruit go bad, and I’ll throw in the whole fruit if I’m feeling lazy or short on time. I haven’t noticed it taking “years” to decompose, but it definitely takes longer than most things. I avoid corn husks and cobs though. Yikes! Those seem to take F O R E V E R . |
Works for me. Maybe the no-citrus thing is related more to a worm composting bin than to actual compost piles or bins. |
no problem with citrus in a compost, the meat will do better than the peel – another use for citrus peels is a the assemblage of a working potpourri bowl, and citrus peels are a lovely addition there |
Hi Van, citris is fine in a compost pile, but it’s best if you chop it up as big pieces can take years to decompose. |
