Favorite Songs – A Change is Gonna Come – Sam Cooke And Big Blue Diamonds by Little Willie John
06.29.2009 - 01:21 pm

Boy, am I showing my age. I like many forms of music but these two songs from
my teenage years still stick in my mind. Sam Cooke was a phenomenal singer and
died tragically. Lately, the words of A Change is Gonna Come just keep playing in my head. Perhaps, I am ready to move on after a 12 year separation from my ex-
husband. While Big Blue Diamonds deals with the simple love behind just a band of gold – the wife left chasing wealth. I’m a band of gold type woman. Listen to the songs if you get a chance.

Hi. It’s nice to get a response. I haven’t seen Cadillac Records" but have wanted to. I agree about Chuck Berry. Rock n’ roll was coined by the African American community. As you may know, black music was banned from many stations. Elvis gets alot of credit. But what he did was open it up by singing songs from Chuck Berry and Little Richard. The Righteous Brothers were banned for sounding black. Craziness! Ah – Donovan Universal Soldier. I am ex military, but I love these Vietnam songs. Let It Be and Long and Winding Road are my favorite Beatles songs. If you get a chance, listen to Gene Pitney’s ‘Just One Smile’ and The Platters ‘My Prayer’.

I love those songs! I am a huge music fan, and everyday a different song represents me. I would consider my theme song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by The Animals. But I adore fifties and sixties music. I like Del Shannon, Duane Eddy, Gene Pitney, Elvis (of course), Ricky Nelson... Oh and The Platters!

Dear Althena A. Padilla, see my posting on the music forum about Sam Cooke and Little John which I was actually trying to send to you. I’ve attempted to send you a reply to my original post three times. I’m not really up on computers, but I’m learning by trial and error. Since, it’s 5:55 in the morning, I don’t really feel like writing the whole letter over a 4th time. I appreciated your comments and from a fellow music lover, it felt good to hear from someone else who appreciated those songs. I think that I’ve got this part figured out now.
I thought you might get a kick out of an old fogie who still loves music as much as I do. Thanks for your comments, Sharon DeLoach

To Athena A. Padilla Check out my latest posting on the original post of my favorite music songs. I was trying to send you a reply for your post but evidently I don’t know how this works. Damn, I wish that I knew what I was doing using this computer but I am just barely used to it and I have all kinds of trouble getting my messages where I want them to go.

Let me try this again. Something happened and I do not know if you received my reply to your quote on A Change is Gonna Come and Big Blue Diamonds on the music that I said that I liked. Thanks for your post. I too, love many different types of songs, but I’d have to say that blues and soul songs stand out in my mind. I have lived thru some really good music in my lifetime. From Sam Cooke to Little Willie John
all the way to the Beatles. I lived thru the Vietnam war years and the peace songs of Donovan, when marijuana came of age. No, I wasn’t a smoker nor did I do drugs. Music was my cure-all. If you get a chance, watch the DVD ‘Cadillac Records’ to see the history of blues and how rock and roll actually started. It was Chuck Berry who was the beginner of rock and roll. No, I’m not African American, but the music and history lesson was really great if you like blues music.I actually have an LP of Gene Pitney’s with the song ‘A Town without Pity’ on it, I believe. The Platters were great for The Great Pretender and other songs and I should have some of their music in my collection. I never was too wild about Elvis though he could really sing. Etta James music was also featured in the movie that I mentioned
and she was a great blues singer. Beyonce Knowles played her in the movie. Hey, Jude and Let It Be by the Beatles are two more of my favorite songs. I have eclectric tastes in music all the way from the 50’s to the present day. I also like country and western though I liked Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Vince Gill among others. For a long stetch of time, all I would listen to was C&W. I’ve gotten away from it lately. Keep on listening to different kinds of music, it frees the soul and takes away your worries. Gospel has its place in my heart, too. I’m like you. I really love music and can get over most anything by listening to it. Thanks for your comments.
