Where do you travel with your girlfriends?
11.23.2010 - 09:19 pm

A group of my girlfriends have all decided to go on vacation together. We are looking for a fun, relaxing place to spend some quality girl bonding time together without the men(or boys) in our lives. Any ideas of places to go?

I have been friends with Anne since I graduated college. We were each other's maids and matrons of honor. Our lives took different paths, she chose a career, and I chose parenting. We stayed in touch over the years, through moves, job changes, child-rearing, etc... Two years ago we became single at the same time. We decided to celebrate by taking a trip together. We chose Greece and Italy. Anne had tons of air miles accumulated from her job, and used them to fly us first-class. What a great trip. We discovered that we awake at the same time, sleep get ready to go in the same amount of time, and most importantly we have the same energy level. We made a pledge to travel together every two years, no matter where we are working, who we are married to, and where we are living. This year we went to Peru to hike the Inca Trail. It was awesome. We haven't decided where we are going next (waiting to see what the US dollar vs Euro is going to be). We have decided to do the more arduous trips while we still can and scale back as we age. Some locations that are on our list are: Australia/New Zealand, Switzerland/Bavaria, Buenos Aires/Antarctica, Hawaii...can't wait for our next adventure.

I love this girls getaway of yours. I’m hoping in the future that my best friend and I will also share that kind of travel-time-together as we all have our transition period in life. You inspired me and get some idea :)

My bestfriend and I always have our annual pilgrimage to different churches in the Philippines. Last summer we spend time together for Visita Iglecia in the Province of Batangas. However during Metro days, we went together to Quiapo, Binondo Church, Baclaran, St. Jude Thaddeus and were looking forward to go to Pink Sisters, Tagaytay (convent) and Manaog Chruch(Pangasinan) for this year’s coming. Having a pilgrimage with different churches make us grow spiritually and have our quality time together praying for one another.

Seatle, Washington with my BF was amazing. We had a great time and got an amazing room at the Hotel Max.

Wine Country!

Napa is the big one, but you can opt for a cheaper version in Temecula… just as beautiful and known for their sparkling champagnes in that region… Toast to friendship! Take a wine tour shuttle, and see what fun and hilarious girl talk you get into after wine stop #3!

Cheers!

Last year we did a Bahamas Cruise to motivate our friend who was going thru chemo. We had such a blast that we are doing it again, and this year we have double the number (26), becasue the word is out that it was so much fun as well as a healing cruise for our girlfriend. www.cruise4cause.org if anyone else who is a girlfriend, caregiver or relative of someone battleing cancer. A donation to ACS is made for every girl who cruises with us.

On a tight budget, and a I new widow, my girlfriend and I did a few week long trips. One was The New England States. We mapped out each state and the hotels along with the places of interest. We had a blast for we saw each one in a very relaxed way for we never had to rush and we always new where we were headed next. We did Las Vegas for 4 days exactly the same. An itinerary sounds silly, but, you know what…..you really do want to see as much as you can and it comes in handy so you don’t forget anything. Of course, you can change your mind when something better presents itself. We also did the beach for a week which was relaxing and very conducent to meeting people, no itinerary and a great tan!!!!! Anything you plan in advance can be fun and anything you do the spur of the moment can be fun. Just make sure you have the funds and one good driver and one who can READ A MAP.

My answer is always: Italy! There is an awesome tour to Florence happening in September sponsored by The Women's Travel Club. It's women only, focusing on the beauties of Florence, shopping, eating splendidly, and a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano. Looks very tempting--including the luxurious Hotel Baglioni!

Italy! I agree!
Florence is the most incredible city . . . The art and the gardens at the Piti Palace are exquisite as is the gift shop there. And there are the wonderful sidewalk cafe’s and the Church’s and the Art.

Oh my!
There are so many fabulous places to go, just spin a globe, close your eyes and point a finger.
A few years ago a friend turned me on to Eastern Spirituality and we took a tour to India. It was the most challenging adventure I have ever experienced. Later, when my husband died, I felt the need to be as physically lost as I was emotionally. I took a leave from work and convinced a friend to take time off and travel with me to Europe. Another time, a different friend and I traveled to Mexico, and another to Yosemite.
What is it you want?
Where ever you land, enjoy the present moment.

I am just back from a Ramblers Worldwide holiday to Tuscany with a girlfriend. Left husband and child at home and we had a grand time!

you must, must, must go to Clearwater Beach, Florida. It is the most beuatiful place, with fun shops, endless white sand beaches, and the Gulf of Mexico that feels like a bathtub. I went there with my mom and i am telling you, time does not exist there. We stayed at the Sandpearl Resort, which i highly recommend, though don’t go to the fancy resort restaurant— the service was ridiculously slow and forgetful. That was the only dowside of the whole trip, and it is easily avoidable. Make sure you walk the beach to Caladesi State Park, a beautiful walk to an uninhabited wonderland. Also, eat at least once at Clearsky restaurant— you’ll go back after the first time, trust me.

Clearwater Beach, Florida. As an inscription on a bench in the State Park there describes it: Heaven on Earth.
