Truth be told, Washington’s initiatives until now will not bring back seven million jobs lost during the recession. Obama’s presidency promised change. While his communication last year may not have ignited the hope for change, his take on the job situation refreshed this promise. “The only way to move to full employment is to lay a new foundation for long-term economic growth and finally address the problems that America’s families have confronted for years,” Obama said. The key words here are “new foundation.” Obama consistently emphasized on long-term through out the speech. It is very easy to make a few people happy in the short term, but it takes courage and leadership to do something great for the long-term despite its unpopularity. True change is sustainable and happens with new foundations.
The hopes are that much of the consumers were encouraged by the address and believe in the president’s ability to bring change. While the democrats got a good workout with the standing ovations during the speech, republicans missed out on a perfectly good opportunity to exercise.
