Whether you’re thinking about going back to school, yet to pick a major, or wondering how to advise a college student in your life, it is important to consider what courses of study will mean in terms of job options. once you get your diploma.


Here’s what graduates with a degree in one of the top five most popular college majors can expect to make in an entry-level position:


1. Business Administration and Management
Ready to take over Wall Street? Well, Wall Street might not be the hiring right now. Still, a degree in business administration can help land you a pretty solid job in the corporate sector. With this degree, you might be looking to go to business school in the future. Earning an MBA will almost certainly multiply your earning potential. For now, however, expect a starting salary between $55,000 and $60,000 a year.


2. Psychology
A bachelor’s degree in psychology doesn’t qualify you to start shrinking heads, but you can start off with a position as a youth counselor or as a substance abuse counselor, for example. If you want to work towards a career as a clinical, social or developmental psychologist, you’ll have to go for a doctoral degree in psychology. Right out of college, however, you can expect to earn around $45,000 to $47,000 a year.


3. Nursing
The health care industry is one of the few fields that continues to grow. The demand for nurses is high nationwide, with registered nurses particularly sought after. Your nursing degree will open a lot of doors for you and, you can afford to be picky. Nursing salaries vary widely by region, but on average your can expect a beginning salary between $40,000 and $42,000.


4. Biology
How lucrative your biology degree proves to be depends wholly on what discipline you choose. Biology majors can go into medicine, research, ecology, biochemistry, botany, biotechnology and other fields. Starting salaries vary greatly between these professions. Pair your degree with a post-graduate degree and your salary could skyrocket.


5. Education
Despite the infamously low salaries afforded to starting teachers, education continues to be one of the most popular college majors. Most public schools use a strict salary grid to establish starting teacher salaries. Though salaries vary by state and school district, expect to start out at around $29,000 to $30,000 a year.
