What People Don’t Know About Collection Agencies

Many people always hear the bad things about collection agencies. The news tells us how to get rid of the “harassing” collections calls. Books tell us how to get rid of them, or how to get rid of our debt in just a few months. Well, not only would I like to know how to get rid of my debt in just a few months, I’m sure all of you would like to know as well.

I worked as a collection agent for about a year and a half. I’m here to tell you that the best way to get rid of the collection and the calls is just to talk to the agent or agency—because they will work with you. Some have financial packets if you can only afford a minimum payment and most of the agencies will settle your debts with you. Yes, some will be difficult but there are options. If you’re not good at paying your bills, such as you forget or space them out, they can automatically take it out of your checking or do an payroll auto-deduction. All you have to do is pick up your phone and call.

The other thing I always heard was, “I didn’t realize that you took those payments!” Okay, well, do you really think that the agency is going to send your $25 payment back to you? No, they will apply it to your account. Most of them require that you set it up a payment plan with them if you don’t and you do send a $25 monthly payment to them on a $6000 bill that you have. Yes, most likely if they find an asset they will sue you, but if you give them a call and see what they say, you might be surprised.

It needs to be known out there that collection agencies are not as bad as they seem. If you just call and make an attempt to pay your bill that you justly owe and make some payments if you can’t afford to pay it off, life will be a lot easier for you and little less stressful.
