It is written in the Scriptures, “It is better a hundredfold to give than to receive!” Wise men (and of course women, too) have twisted their brains to answer the why in how this can be true. This is out of proportion! Everything in nature tends to go in the direction of harmony, of balance! Thus it is considered to be illogical and unreasonable.
Now, if we investigate the how, we come to the following: If I give you something of a certain value and you strive to give me another thing of about the same value, then we are quit; we can go our different ways.
On the other hand, if you only gave me back an object one hundredth of the value of the object I gave you, where would that leave us? Would each of us sit with the unsettled feeling of “she owes me” or “I owe him”?
Now, we could agree to “forgive” each other from the beginning, i.e., we give away the right for any obligation. Okay! However, nature (and especially mankind, by hook or by crook) wants to equal out! How does that happen? Which is the “coin” that the more I give away of, I will always have enough of?
Yes, we can call that “coin” love.
How is love manifested? There are so many different ways and so many different categories of people, from the nearest (my child) to the furthest (the senator, unbeknownst to me, whose speech intrigued me). What is the most common denominator of all these manifestations of love?
The denomination of that coin is joy. So what equals out a gift one hundred times? The joy of accepting this gift unconditionally!
This is a quite a difficult thing for most people to comprehend! Now, who can do that better than a child? No one! However, there is a child within each and every one of us.
So, let us show the joy of a child—our inner child—when we receive a gift. We are paying it back a hundredfold!
