Really, What's It Good For?

I cannot, for the life of me, think of one good reason for war. I can understand disputes between nations, I can understand why people want to kill each other, but I don’t understand the rationality behind the whole concept. I mean, two countries can have different economies and run their governments differently, but why do they kill their own people over their differences? What I find truly hypocritical about the whole thing is that the people who support the wars the most are the people watching it on television. Even our great global leaders are inactive during war. They, of all people, should be the first ones out there with a grenade and a machine gun. After all, they’re the ones who declared war in the first place.

I believe that those who are supportive of war should be the people going, and if they don’t want to, then they should shut the hell up. If you’ve never been to war yourself, then you have no right to voice your opinion about how great and necessary war is. If you think, wholeheartedly, that war is reasonable, then I would like for you to find the nearest, sharpest item you can find and stab it through the center of your eye. That is what war does to people. It painfully and permanently scars a person, changing who they used to be for the rest of their lives.  Now think of the one person you love above all others. Imagine if you could bear to see them live like that, scarred, a shell of their former self. If you’re not prepared to sacrifice yourself and those you love to the cruelties of war, then you’re not prepared to support war.
