Friends and acquaintances of mine have asked me so many times, who is this girl Charice. I always seem to have a quick answer, “Oh, she is this girl with a powerful voice. She will blow you away with her ballads.”
Let me ask you. Who is this girl, Charice? Do we really know her that well? Probably with the exception of her Mommy Raquel and her brother Carl, majority of us don’t really have the true answer to that question.
Can you really stop for a moment, and give a good substantive answer to the question, who is this girl, Charice?
I am also asking the same question to Mr. David Foster and Ms. Oprah Winfrey. I would like everyone to give an honest to goodness answer. No one liners.
Chasters, with your strong adulation and “addiction” to Charice, can you really answer the question, who is this girl, Charice? Why are you so obsessed with her?
Yes, why no recession in the world, no unemployment, no Virus outbreak could stop a Chaster from flying to Las Vegas to attend Charice’s concert? Why Charice became a daily part of a Chaster’s life? They are willing to spend their hard earned money to buy her CDs, her latest single “Note To God” is a bestseller. Charice became a person that comes between husbands and their wives. Either the wife is so into Charice that she does not go to bed until after she has repeatedly watched Charice’s videos or the husband is so into Charice that he practically ignores his loving wife. Have people (Chasters) lost their minds? Do they need professional help? This is serious. But people claim it makes them so happy.
Why do people tear up when they listen to Charice belts out those heart-wrenching, powerful ballads?
Why do they experience “goosebumps?” Who is this girl, Charice?
Some people will answer, she is that Filipino girl whom I saw on Oprah. She is the girl who sang with Celine Dion and blew the roof off Madison Square Garden. She is the girl who sang with Andrea Bocelli on his birthday soiree in Tuscany. Oh, she is the girl whom I saw on YouTube singing in Korea.
People will come up with one liners. But what is the true ESSENCE of Charice?
I will try in my own humble way to answer the lingering question. Who is this girl, Charice?
Most of the answer will be based upon what we heard, what we read, and what we saw on YouTube.
But let’s scratch the surface and see the true intrinsic quality of this young singer. The true essence of Charice.
We all know that Charice hails from the tiny town of Laguna, in the Philippines. At the age of four, she started singing so she and her family can have their next meal. I was in tears upon learning that all she and her younger brother ate three times a day was cups of noodles. (Ready mixture of dried noodles mix with hot water.) To those readers who do not know, Charice and her family were victims of a violent father. Her mom was unemployed, so they survived on eating noodles three times daily. My big question is where is the Philippine government Social Services to assist this family? Or any family who come out from violent homes.
Charice, at age seven, out of dire family need to survive, was obligated to sing in malls to earn a living. She also entered singing contest but experienced severe disappointments for placing third, despite, the fact that she performed well. The rest is history.
What is the true essence of Charice. She was discovered by multiple Emmy-winner host, Ellen de Generes, on YouTube. In December 2007, Charice was flown into the U.S. for the first time to sing in the highly-rated Ellen de Generes Show. Ellen declared while in tears that “she could smell a Star.” She followed by saying, “I was there, this girl is phenomenal, I don’t care, I will cry.”
In May 2008, she was invited to sing in the multiple Emmy Award, highly rated Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah was blown away by Charice’s powerful rendition of “I Have Nothing.” This unforgettable performance opens the door to two more blockbuster appearances in the Oprah Winfrey Show. Her long time dream of meeting her idol Celine Dion was granted that resulted with a duet at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. The turn of events was so rapid that everyone was left in disbelief. When Oprah introduced Charice to the veteran, multiple Grammy winner, star maker David Foster, we all know her destiny to worldwide fame was sealed.
Needless to say, Oprah Winfrey Show dubbed Charice as the current “World’s Most Talented Kid.”
In May 2008, Charice was featured in the David Foster and Friends Concert #1 in the posh Mandalay Bay Hotel Resort. After her unforgettable, standing ovation performance, David Foster declared, “A star is born!”
Charice just turned sixteen years old but that evening, she was the talk of the town. Charice broke the glass ceiling. She kicked the doors wide open, so to speak. Celebrities like Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli had stated positive testimonials about Charice.
Yes, sixteen years old Charice had brought so much joy, pride, and honor to her home country, the Philippines.
This is the essence of Charice. Her intrinsic qualities had surfaced. Not only she wanted to fulfill her own dreams but as she sings, good, wonderful things happen.
Moreover, we may not have paid too much attention, and it was not well publicized that as Charice performs with her mentor David Foster, she helped raised millions of dollars to benefit sick children on David Foster’s Foundation Organ Transplantation Society, and also on Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation for underprivileged children.
In March 2009, in between her busy world wide schedule, Charice performed at Shangrila Mall in the Philippines for her thousands of Filipino fans.
Charice knew that her people were too poor to pay for concert tickets, so she performed FREE. Gratis et amore!
Lastly, Charice is currently supporting seven underprivileged children through her favorite charity World Vision. It is also well known that she had bought her mother and younger brother a home and a car.
Now that is the TRUE essence of Charice. She had nothing. All she has is her God-given singing voice, and her undying dreams. She is forever in gratitude, and respect to Ms. Ellen de Generes, Ms. Oprah Winfrey, and her mentor Mr. David Foster. These three Americans saw something special and believed in Charice.
Charice knows how to give back. And to me that is her true essence. Let’s continue supporting this child prodigy who had accomplished so much at an age where others her age just simply rely on parents allowances, and spend too much time in malls. Please download her new single, “Note to God” in iTunes or Amazon.com.
