Last year on Christmas Eve, 3 little girls along with their grandparents perished in a house fire caused by ashes removed from the fireplace in order for Santa to come down. I was so touched by this that I could not think of anything else. I realized that all the Christmas stories, movies and books always had Santa coming down the fireplace. This made me think and this story came to me.

I am so excited, today is the Macy’s Day Parade and everyone knows that Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in it. You see, he shows up to check out all his helpers who work in all the stores that we go see and tell our list of what we want for Christmas.
But let me tell you about the year I refused to sit on Santa’s helpers lap and tell him what I wanted.
You see, I live in a high rise building in New York City and we do not have a fireplace.
Being Santa always comes down the chimney to bring the gifts, I had no reason to let him know what I wanted since there was no chimney for him to come down. I was so sad that my Mom and Dad did not know what was wrong with me. I told my Grandma that I wasn’t going to ask Santa for anything. She asked why. I told her that we do not have a chimney and he can’t come to my house anyway.
Grandma said she had a secret to tell me about Santa and chimneys.
so when Santa and his magic sled with Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolf land on the roof, he first feels the chimney and if it is warm, he uses his magic key.
Magic key, I said. I didn’t know Santa had a magic key. Oh yes, said Grandma. How do you think he delivers the gifts to the children who live in warm sunny places that do not have a chimney? There are children who live in big buildings too that do not have chimneys, so Santa has a magic key that opens up the door so he can deliver the gifts.
Oh Grandma, thank you for sharing your secret about Santa’s Magic Key with me. Can you take me to the mall to see Santa’s helper so I can tell him what I really want for Christmas this year? So off we went to see Santa’s helper and I jumped on his lap and told him what I wanted Santa to bring me and I said as I left, I am so happy about the magic key. Santa’s helper winked at me and said he was happy too.
