Dear D—
You met J when your life (and my life) were turned upside down; but it all made sense. You met him among the throes of professional and personal chaos, and as crazy as it may seem, I was lucky too, literally, to be by your side for all of it. Seeing the strength you exhibited, coupled with your professionalism, and devotion to your family … it made me respect you even more. It also made me question myself. That’s when I knew you were sent to me.
As you are well aware, I have been on my quest to meet my J, but I do believe that God works in mysterious ways. As you found J, I am on my path to finding that same love and safety. Having you has taught me I am worthy of that comfort. I know your faith in me will carry over into our futures—yours with J and mine with …? Regardless, I know I am am always welcome in your family. We are each other’s family.
As you stand together on your wedding day, I can imagine the fluttering you feel in your chest—the excitement, the anxious anticipation … but, God, the love … and I am honored to be a key part of your day. Who we pick to play a part on our life’s major roles is indicative of the way we harbor our relationships. I know for you, and for J, your love is true.
I look at the two of you and feel joy. You embody true, lasting love.
You, of all people, would not know that I am far from sappy with most people, but you are the truest, most authentic soul I have ever met. J has a ton to be thankful for, and so do I.
