Grandchildren and Them Growing Up

Everyone that knows me knows that I am very proud of my grandchildren. My oldest grandson is in his first year of college and he is doing great. I do not see him as much as I would like to, but I do talk with him when he gets a break from school and he does work, too. My second grandson is a senior in high school and he is about to make that giant step of going to college this fall. My third grandson is a junior and he works with children on the weekend. My fourth grandson is in the sixth grade and he is (like his brothers) very sports-minded. There is no game that I have not heard him say he does not like; he plays basketball, football, baseball, tennis, swimming, and golf. Most of the time he tells me he goes out on the range with his Dad, and sometimes his brothers are with them. These four young men are academic students; their grades are basically As and Bs; I’ve not heard of the parents saying that they had gotten a C, D, E, or F on their report cards since the time that they started school.

My granddaughter is in the first grade and she goes to ballet classes and ice-skating. It seems that she is very good at these things too, and her academics are as up to par as her cousins. I received pictures of her and her siblings a couple of days ago, and to my surprise no one told me she had lost her two top front teeth. She looks good and seems to accept this stage in her life. My fifth grandson is in day care and seems to enjoy this. My daughter-in-law said that he has gone out for soccer and that he likes it very much. In the middle of this month my last granddaughter had her first birthday party and, from what I saw in the pictures, fun was had by all (their grandparents on her mother’s side were there, I think I felt a little envy), she looked as if she really knew what was going on. This granddaughter, I’ve not held in my arms or snuggled her as I have with my other grandchildren, but whenever I get the chance (they live out West), I will.
