I’m always ravenous after I work out, so I’m constantly experimenting with new recipes and foods that will fill me up and treat my post-workout body with some healthy TLC. I’m also usually too exhausted to mess around with anything complicated that requires more than ten minutes to prepare. Finding a meal that’s healthy, delicious, and fast is a tall order to fill, but recently, I became reacquainted with an old food friend that meets all my requirements: the smoothie.
Not only is this smoothie chock full of good-for-your-body ingredients, it also features a new spin on an old favorite of mine—peanut butter and chocolate—with the addition of almond butter, another one of my nut butter obsessions.
This smoothie weighs in at about 450 calories, so depending where I am in my daily caloric totals and nutritional needs, I sometimes add a baked sweet potato to the mix to round out dinner. Delicious!
1/2 cup skim milk
One banana, the riper the better
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa (you may opt for a little more or less, depending on how chocolate-y you want it to be)
2 tablespoons almond butter
Ice cubes to taste for thicker, colder consistency
- Pour milk into a blender.
- Slice the banana into small pieces and add to the milk. (Tip: sometimes I put my overripe bananas in the freezer to preserve them; they make the smoothie a little thicker and give it a nice cold temperature. Beware, though, they’re painfully cold when cutting them.)
- Add the remaining ingredients and blend. Serve in a tall glass and enjoy.
