There are not too many recipes that wouldn’t be enhanced by the wonderful flavor of garlic. Whether in a side dish, main meal, or infused in a sauce or dressing- garlic complements almost everything. Roasting whole heads of garlic is an easy way to bring a new depth of flavor to your favorite garlic dishes. When garlic is roasted, it becomes a sweet, nutty, creamy, and spreadable delight. Not only does roasted garlic give a difference in taste to a dish when compared with raw garlic, it also doesn’t leave you with overwhelming ”garlic breath”.
Here is how to roast your own head of garlic:
- 1 whole head garlic
- extra virgin olive oil
- salt and pepper
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
- Slice a little bit off the bottom of the head of garlic, just so that it sits upright. Remove any loose layers of skin off the bulb and cut a 1/4 inch off the top of the head of garlic to reveal the cloves inside.
- Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and cracked pepper.
- Wrap the garlic loosely in foil or parchment paper and place on a sheet pan. Roast for 30 to 40 minutes, until the garlic is lightly browned and soft. Once cooled, the garlic will easily squeeze out from each clove.
