if you really want to enjoy driving your rented or own car than you should save some time for this drive along the coast.I will give you some tips assuming that you have landed on the airport Split in the region of Dalmatia. If you look on the map of Croatia you will see that it is somewhere in th middle of the Croatian coast and for my opinion best place to start exploring Croatia by car.Scenic route Split – Dubrovnik – If you are going south from Split, it is direction to Dubrovnik you will enjoy breathtaking view on the cliffs over Makarska,Brela,Baska Voda,on your right side you will see island Brac and after it, later will see island Korcula.

My reccommendation is to take a break near Makarska, in a smal place called Brela, there you will find most beatiful beach in Croatia.Take at least 2 hours to enjoy in it and refresh yourself before you go any further.Dubrovnik is 240 km far away from Split and during the long summer days it is possible to go in Dubrovnik and back in one day but be prepared for slow drive and many many cars. All along that rout there are many private accommodations, apartments in Croatia for rent and villas so you can always stop and find some accommodation. In summer months is much better if you make a reservation a few months before your arrival as it can be hard to find some good apartment or private house free in last minute.Scenic route Split – Istria. This is another scenic route along the coast, this one goes on the north,to Istria.

During this drive you should see Primosten,Sibenikhttp://www.villa-sunrise.com,than Zadar and after that, on your way to windy small town Senj you will have oportunity to enjoy in cristal blue sea on your left side and mighty Velebit mountains on your right side. For those who likes exploring nature there is National Park Paklenica on that route. After Senj you will be approaching Crikvenica and some other small touristic places along the Adriatic coast. After you reach Rijeka you should take a route further to Rovinj and Porec and enjoy in Istria, one of the most famous regions of Croatia.Istria is famous because of its very reach offer of villas in Croatia with pools and quality apartments for rent and private accommodations.A Split is more than 500 km far away you should consider to reserve some accommodation there before you go back to Split.

Scenic route Split – Zagreb.Croatia has a brand new highway, one of the best in Europe in this moment so drive to Zagreb takes only 3 hours (in summer count at least 6 hours). This highway pass through inland of Croatia and gives you oportunity to see Skradin,Lika region and National park Plitvice lake.I will reccommend you to stay one night on Plitvice and give yourself time to enjoy in this real natural wonder.Split is 400 km far away from Zagreb.
