If I had the power to award genius prizes, I’d give one to Frank Morales, an executive chef from Virginia, who decided to put beer on a stick and call it a “hopsicle.” It’s not only a clever name, but who doesn’t love an extra-frosty beer on a hot day?! Morales accidentally stumbled upon his creation when he left a bottle of beer in his freezer for three hours and came back to find it frozen solid. Being the genius that he is, he capitalized on his “mistake” and added the boozy-pop to his menu, which features mostly fruity beers that are low in alcohol and minimally hopped. The hopsicle has been embraced by at least one bar in New York that freezes cans of sugar and lime-juice-infused Tecate and saws them open with a serrated steak knife for customers to enjoy.
