Are You Tickled About Tangerine?

If you walk into any store that sells beauty products right now, you’ll find tons of tangerine. It’s impossible to ignore the fact that tangerine, along with colros like orange and coral, are having a serious moment. They were all over the spring runways, and that’s translated to the shades showing up in almost every makeup brand in some way or another for spring and summer. At first I was slightly ambivelant about it because I never really “got” the color as a makeup option, but now that I’ve been playing around with some of the products, I’ve changed my mind. Maybe it’s the fact that my hair is darker now or that I’ve been using a gradual self-tanner on my face (and thus don’t look as ghostly pale as usual), but whatever it is, I’m having an orange moment myself, especially with products from Sephora.

One of my favorite products I’ve tried is the new Color of the Year Lipgloss Set from Sephora + Pantone Universe. Sephora has built an entire launch around Tangerine Tango, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2012. The company has released a whole bunch of new products in the shade—everything from blush to eyeshadows to nail polishes—but the only ones I’ve tried so far have been the glosses. For $20, you get four different variations on Tangerine Tango: tangerine, tangerine with shimmer, tangerine with gold shimmer, and tangerine pink with gold shimmer. They’re all similar, but just different enough that it’s nice to have the option of using any of them, and since they average out to only $5 apiece, it’s the perfect way to integrate the shade into your makeup routine without throwing down a large amount of cash. (It’s cheaper than just one NARS lipgloss, although if you do have the cash, I highly recommend NARS Lip Gloss in Wonder. It’s a sheer mandarin orange with pink and gold shimmer—so pretty!)

Sephora Collection has also jumped on the orange train with four new nail polishes in tangerine-inspired hues. My personal favorite is  the Lacquer Nail Polish in Burst of Mango Cream. It’s a gorgeous bright orange that looks even brighter on than it does in the bottle. It borders on neon, so I probably wouldn’t wear it on my fingers, but it’s on my toes right now and it’s just so bold and fun. Perfect for the warmer weather, but even if you’re still hiding your feet in boots all day, it’ll make you happy when you see your toes in the shower.

If you love orange, but aren’t sure you can pull off the color on you body, Sephora Collection also has a new set of Blood Orange Cosmetic Bags that’ll let you be a part of the trend without taking any risks. I’ve really loved all the Sephora makeup bags I’ve bought over the years, but I have so many at this point, I really can’t justify picking up another set. But if you buy them, enjoy them for me!
