Thanks to Leighton Meester, I've been inspired to write about bobs. I first saw photos of her with her bob about a month ago, and admittedly exclaimed "Finally!". She is just a girl who pulls off a bob right, I can't quite put my finger on why exactly.

First let's talk about what makes a bob. A true bob is considered to be the same length all the way around, with no layers or angles, and hits between the chin and the shoulders. These days, most anything can be considered a bob really. For instance an angled bob like Victoria Beckham wore in 2008, or a shaggy bob like Dianna Agron has been wearing for the last year. It's really only the lengths that make puts them in the bob category.

I've been known to call bobs "the universal haircut", because they look good on virtually any hair type, hair texture and face shape. Whether you have thick, thin, curly, straight, coarse or fine hair you can wear a bob. Want to know the best part? They are the easiest short haircut to grow out. You heard right! If you get a true bob, with no angles or layers, you have nothing funky that needs to be grown in before you can let the length come in (like…oh, say a pixie!).

True story, I cut a bob in the spring of 2010, and my hair is super long now. A year or two more with this long hair and you just might see me going for a chop again. Inspired by Leighton.
